M'Hamed Boucetta died last night (video)

M'Hamed Boucetta, former Secretary General of the Istiqlal Party (IP) and former Minister, died last night at age 92.

Boucetta will be buried Sunday in Marrakech, in accordance with the last wishes of the deceased who wanted to be buried in his hometown.

Boucetta was born in 1925 in Marrakech, the city where he also completed his university studies in law and philosophy, before working as a lawyer in Casablanca.

Boucetta was from an early age engaged in national politics and was one of the founders of the IP, of which he became a member of the Board of Directors in 1963, before being elected as Secretary General after the death of Allal El Fassi in 1972 , a position he held until 1998.

During his political career he held various positions in the Balfour Government. He worked at the Department of Foreign Affairs during the term of Office of Ahmed Balafrej in 1958 and later also as a Minister of public affairs and administrative reform and Minister of Justice.

Almost a month before his death visited King Mohammed VI Boucetta still in the military hospital in Rabat, where he was admitted with acute bronchitis.
