Major drug smuggling blocked at border crossing Guerguarat

More than three tonnes of hashish was seized in a trailer at the Guerguarat border crossing with Mauritania.

An extensive border control by the security forces has led to the discovery of 3 tons of hashish in a truck with trailer registered in Morocco. The drug was hidden in bottles of cosmetic products that were intended for export to "an African country," according to a statement released Thursday evening of the DGSN.

The drugs were handed over to the Customs and the driver, a 48-year-old Moroccan, was arrested and transferred to the regional authorities for a full investigation into the drug trafficking operation.

The DGSN confirmed that the smuggling attempt was stopped as a result of the efforts to combat the international drug trade.
