EU Parliament wants visa requirements for Americans

For Americans who travel to Europe the visa requirement would need to be introduced. A majority of the European Parliament voted Thursday for there.

Americans now have a visa-free regime for the EU, but the U.S. visa requirements of Bulgarians, Romanians, Cypriots, Croats and Poland if they wish to travel to the US. Parliament wants the European Commission measures within two months. That had to be done according to the rules actually last year.

The Commission reported in december that the U.S. continue to refuse the five EU countries exempt from the visa requirement. Consultation with the US is "fruitless '', but the pressure would be stepped up in the first half of this year.

The visa requirements for Americans would initially for one year. Brussels and the Member States, however, fear the consequences that would have for trade, tourism and overall relations with the US.
