Moroccans at the top list of recipients EU citizenship

Moroccans are at the top in the list of nationals residing in 2015 have obtained the nationality of a European country, followed by Albanians and Turks, reports Eurostat in a report.

86,100 Moroccan nationals have Italian, Spanish or French nationality obtained, followed by Albanians (48,400) and Turks (35,000).

"The largest group who obtained citizenship of an EU Member State in 2015 were civilians from Morocco (88% of which the citizenship via Italy  Spain or France had acquired) ", the report said.

Eurostat gave further that in 2015 approximately 840,000 people have obtained the nationality of an EU Member State, this is a decrease the number of people compared to 2014 (890,000) and in 2013 (980,000).

The same source added further to add that more than 5 million inhabitants since 2010 the nationality of an EU Member State were awarded. "Since 2010 have a total of over 5 million people awarded citizenship of an EU Member State. Of this number 87% were not EU citizens, "said Eurostat.
