New Hamas leader Haniyeh

Ismail Haniyeh is the new leader of the Palestinian Hamas movement.

He follows Khaled Meshaal, who resigns at the end of his term, at a time when Hamas want to sail a more moderate rate.

With the appointment of the 54-year-old Haniyeh think Hamas is the right man to have found to get out of the international isolation. The movement reported Monday that they no longer bent on the destruction of Israel. It also ends the ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. Though Hamas still refuses to recognize Israel as a State, while Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas the country recognizes.

Haniyeh was the favorite of Meshaal. Between 2006 and 2014 he was already Prime Minister of the Hamas Government in the Gaza Strip. In 2007, he was deposed by Abbas during the height of the conflict between Hamas and Fatah. However, Haniyeh sit until 2014.
