European Union extends sanctions against Syria

On Monday the European Union sanctions against the Syrian regime shall be extended by one year because of the oppression of the population.

To the list of people whose assets have been frozen in the EU, are three ministers added. They may not travel to the EU. There are now 67 240 people and institutions on the sanction list.

The EU prohibits, among other things, arms trade, financial transactions and trade in all kinds of goods and services with Syria. Include technology that internet and phone traffic. In addition, an oil embargo.

The sanctions, which were extended until 1 June 2018, will only terminate if the Suppression of the Syrian people by the regime of president Bashar al-Assad and his stalwarts stops.
