Internet companies with lax approach hate

About 59 percent of hate messages on the internet by Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Microsoft removed after notification.

But only 51 percent of reports by internet users about hateful content and calls for violence by the internet companies within 24 hours on illegality.

That explains Commissioner Vera Jourova (Justice) Thursday in an evaluation, exactly one year after the internet companies and the European Commission signed a code of conduct. That should help to counter radicalisation among young people and racists who try to spread the hate online. Socialemediabedrijven and other online platforms have joined the initiative.

Jourova finds that it is the "good side" holds true but that more needs to be done. Agreed was that "the majority" of notifications within 24 hours is handled.

Next week, the EU justice ministers on the subject.
