Said Chaou free from extradition detention

The Court in Breda, the Dutchman Said Chaou Wednesday released from Moroccan extradition detention.

Said Chaou was maintained after international fuss was around him at the end of June. Morocco suspects him of international drug trafficking, corruption and involvement in a criminal organisation. According to Morocco he is also involved in the financing of the month-long protests in the Rif region in the North of the North African country.

According to the Dutch Ministry of security and justice Chaou was held for extradition after Morocco had given guarantees that he will not be prosecuted for his political activities. The Dutch to stresses that the extradition procedure continues. The extradition request is treated on 26 september.



Chaou had asked the Dutch court itself to release and he will oppose extradition to Morocco. He doubts seriously to the guarantees granted to Morocco. The promise that he not for political activities will be prosecuted, according to his lawyer is worthless.
