Bangladesh: Rohingya Myanmar should take it back

The Prime Minister of Bangladesh wants neighboring Myanmar in safe zones so that Rohingya refugees can return.

"Myanmar has created this problem and they have to solve," said Sheikh Hasina. "Myanmar will all Rohingya refugees who have entered Bangladesh should take it back."

Bangladesh is heavily burdened by the massive influx of Rohingya Muslims, fleeing violence in their homeland. Parliament adopted Monday a law to which the international community is called upon to put pressure on Myanmar to solve the crisis.

The Myanmar authorities have indicated that refugees be allowed to return if they can prove that they are citizens. According to a 1982 law, however, they are no longer citizens of Myanmar. They have no passport. In practice many Rohingya families lived for generations in Myanmar.
