' Yes-camp on lead in North Iraq '

At the controversial independence referendum in the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq is a large majority for the yes camp.

The Electoral Commission in Erbil estimates based on the first vote counts that more than 90 percent of the voters opted for independence.

The Commission made known Monday evening that the rise 72% according to provisional figures. The final results of the non-binding referendum is expected to be unveiled within a few days, but many inhabitants of Erbil after the elections already went to the streets to party.
