Tangier: Siemens Gamesa opens factory for blades of wind turbines

The first of its kind in Africa and the Middle East.

Siemens Gamesa, the Spanish production company that mainly involved in the manufacturing of wind turbines and the construction of wind farms, inaugurated yesterday in a new factory in Tangiers, reports.

The event was chaired by the Moroccan Minister of industry, investment, trade and digital economy, Moulay Hafid Elalamy and Markus Tacke, president and CEO of Siemens Gamesa ' Renewable Energy '.

The factory is the first wind turbine manufacturer in Africa and the Middle East. It will be the blades of wind turbines produce with composite materials.

The factory, located in the industrial area at about 35 kilometers from the port of Tanger Med, has an area of 37,500 square metres. B63-10 pages, 63 meters long, will be produced for export to Europe, Africa and the Middle East, as well as for local projects.

"This factory is good for our company and the 100 million euros that we invest here, are the result of a thorough commercial decision. There is a training centre of 3,500 square meters to set up knowledge transfer of Siemens Gamesa-experts in Spain to Tangier.

This new plant will contribute to the national goal of Morocco to in 2030 to 52% of its electricity from clean energy to produce, of which 20% will be generated by wind power.
