Moroccan cities: Nador

In the series with Moroccan cities today we focus the spotlight on N.

Nador is a town in northeastern Morocco, located in the rif region. The city is located on the Mediterranean coast to the Bou Areg-lagoon and is surrounded by mountains. Nador is a port city and an important trading centre for fish and vegetables. Characteristic of Nador is the beautiful nature and great diversity of birds.

The proximity of the Spanish city of Melilla is an important factor in international trade, it's become a point for incoming consumer products from Europe. The port city counted728,634 inhabitants in 2004.

The city of Nador was established by the Berbers, the city was later ruled by the Phoenicians, Romans, Spaniards and Arabs. The name of the city probably comes from "Has N ', meaning ' a small settlement on a laguna ' means, the name could also derive from the Arabic word ' nadar ', meaning ' mountain '.

The culture and language are more than 3000 years old and it is to this day still spoken Tamazight-speaking, the main variant is the Tarifit. Are you with family and would you like to have a nice and quiet "own" beach then you can do that, too, you have to then go and find a place that is surrounded by rocks. You can also eat fish that is extracted directly from the sea.

This is a local market where you can find everything, from food for fruit-groentensouk and melilla. This is a larger market with more products, also here you can walk and discover the Moroccan products.

The Gourougou is a nature area with many mountains and steep roads. Ideal for a stroll or active rock climbing. If you have climbed the mountains a lot you have a nice view of Nador. You can also view the Barbary Macaque in the area, it is home to a number of monkeys colonies that are well protected.

About 30 km from Nador, lies the village Arkmane Kariet that large freshwater and saltwater Lakes. It is well worth a visit if you're a bird and nature lover. All kinds of birds such as flamingos and many insects come on these sites for. Among other brightly colored sand locusts, spiders and damselflies are some insects that are found in this area. If you have further East direction, you will find different types of flowers and plants.

N has a Mediterranean climate. The summers are dry and warm, with relatively high temperatures. The winters are mild with little precipitation, average temperatures range from 8 to 18 degrees in the autumn and winter. Are you looking for an active vacation than the winter months are ideal.
