Egypt: ' local residents tried to defend mosque attack '

The death toll in the attack, according to the State media now grown to 235 dead.

Armed local residents have tried to thwart the attackers Friday that attacked a mosque in the Egyptian Bir-al-Abed. The extremists eventually struck on the flight when security forces arrived, said a high official within the security services.

According to eye-witnesses told television channel Al Arabiya that the attackers wore military uniforms. They reason allegedly in four off-road vehicles to the mosque. There they left an explosive going off. Also, they opened fire on believers. That happened during the usually well visited Friday prayers.

Sources within the Ministry of Health said that the perpetrators also on ambulances shots.

The death toll has now risen to 235 according to the State media, 109 were injured.
