Sahara: Canadian Colin Stewart appointed head of MINURSO

The UN called the MINURSO peace force in life to monitor the peace process in the Western Sahara.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has announced the appointment Friday of Canadian Colin Stewart as his Special Representative for Western Sahara and head of MINURSO.

Stewart succeeds his compatriot Kim Bolduc, which its mission at the head of MINURSO on november 22, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said, completed.

"The Secretary-General is grateful for her strong leadership and Mrs Bolduc perseverance during her tenure," added Mr Dujarric.

The 56-year-old Colin Stewart is a former Canadian diplomat and held various positions at the United Nations.
