Moroccan dance ' Taskiwin' on intangible heritage list of Unesco (video)
Taskiwin is a war dance that is specific to the Western High Atlas and which takes its name from the Horn that each dancer wears, UNESCO reported today in a statement. It comes to the shaking of the shoulders to the beat of tambourines and flutes. The dance is threatened by several factors, including globalization, increasing young people's contempt for traditional heritage practices and a decrease in the related craftsmanship. Nevertheless, the last two decades have seen an increase in collective awareness among communities and there are special associations set up to protect the dance.
The representative list of the intangible cultural heritage of humanity is a composite list of intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. The list stems from the Convention on the protection of the intangible cultural heritage.
