Drâa-Tafilalet: fall of date production in 2017

After the previously mentioned drop in citrus fruits, also shows the date harvest suffered from the drought due to a lack of precipitation.

The production of dates in the region amounts to 101,000 tons in 2017-Tafilalet Drâa, across from 116,000 a year earlier, according to the Regional Directorate of the agricultural sector. This decrease is largely due to the low level of precipitation in the region, says the same source.

The Drâa region-Tafilalet has about 4.35 million date palms in a total area of 43,000 hectares. The province of Errachidia is the main production area of dates in the territory, followed by Tinghir, Ouarzazate and Zagora.
