Morocco and Malawi strengthen bilateral cooperation in agricultural sector

The cooperation will consist of assistance to farmers, in particular through the application of irrigation systems on agricultural lands in Malawi.

Habib Ouhelli, Secretary of State for rural development, Water and Forests, held a meeting earlier this week with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and cooperation of Malawi, Emmanuel Fabiano, means of bilateral cooperation in the to strengthen agriculture.

Ouhelli told the Moroccan news agency MAP that this meeting, which is part of the South-South cooperation in accordance with the African vision of King Mohammed VI, was an opportunity to examine bilateral ways cooperation in the field of agriculture. He added that at the end of the talks, the two countries will sign two cooperation agreements.

This cooperation will consist of assistance to farmers, in particular through the application of irrigation systems on agricultural lands in Malawi, he said.

It's also about educating the farmers in Malawi to the organisational capacity of professionals in structured legal forms, such as cooperatives and associations. Ouheli pointed out that the structuring of the job is essential to the development of the sector in this country.
