Akhannouch: ' The fisheries agreement shall remain in force ' (video)
The fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union "remains in force and is still valid".Â European fishing vessels will continue to fish in the Saharan provinces of the Kingdom, according to the protocol that ends on 14 July 2018, said the Moroccan Minister for agriculture, sea fisheries and rural development this afternoon.
In response to the judgement of the Court of Justice of the European Union (cjeu) stressed the Minister in his statement to the press three other essential points:
-"the verdict speaks not at all about the ban on fishing in the waters of the southern provinces".
-"the verdict does not speak about the Polisario".
-"the negotiations between Morocco, through the ministries of Foreign Affairs and fisheries, and the European Union will continue".
In a joint statement signed by EU-buitenlandchef, Federica Mogherini and the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs and international cooperation, Nasser Bourita, give both parties "have taken note of the judgement of the Cjeu today on the fisheries agreement between Morocco and the European Union ".
Both parties confirm "their commitment to the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union and their determination to maintain and strengthen". In this context, they added there in the Joint Declaration: "to further strengthen their political dialogue and the stability of their trade relations to protect".
Both sides also confirmed their support for the UN process and support the efforts of the Secretary-General to reach a final political solution to the Sahara issue.
